In Re Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation, 18-MD-02843, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Francisco) , Meta Platforms Inc. has agreed to settle the case concerning illegal sharing of user data with British Political Consulting research firm Cambridge Analytica. It is the biggest amount paid by Meta in a Class action suit concerning Privacy of users.
Cambridge Analytica worked for successful presidential campaign in 2016 and gained access to personal information of millions of Facebook users without their consent and thereafter used the information for voter profiling and targeting.
However, Meta has not accepted any wrong doing on its part and said that the settlement is in the best interest of community and its shareholders.
